International Interns and Indian Companies

Sneha is one of the founders of a unique new media and event management company in Bangalore, South India.Sneha has welcomed several Leave UR Mark interns to the company’s office where they have had the opportunity to gain valuable international work experience while learning about an exciting emerging market.

The company has quickly established a name for itself through the passion and drive of its founders. “The goal of our company is to build a community that empowers people with information,” explains Sneha. “We build products which are beneficial for communities and gather people together and bring benefit. We aim to ensure that through information, vendors and clients will be empowered and bring about change.” The company provides cutting-edge information on advanced topics and trend forecasting. It has organised large-scale conferences and expos which have brought together thousands of participants from around the world. Its two fields of specialisation include information technology and green technologies, like solar and wind energy.

Sneha has worked with eight interns who came through Leave UR Mark so far. The skill sets they look for in their interns include experience with inside sales, web design, marketing, project management and editorial skills. Interns also obviously have to speak and write excellent English.  During the selection process, Leave UR Mark sends Sneha the profiles of potential interns which she has a careful look over to determine their needs and match them to a position in the company. Previous interns have worked in inside sales, which involves finding appropriate participants for events and networking. Others have taken care of editorial tasks which included interviews for a new web portal, collecting information, building content and gathering information and articles. The office environment here is a relaxed and friendly one, where everyone is ready to help a new intern settle in. “We take them out for lunch, help them get settled and get used to the environment,” says Sneha.Interns generally stay for a period of three months.

Sneha and her business partners have developed a unique concept which brings together vendors and buyers at luxury events for decision-makers at an off-site location. Interns have assisted with such events by doing necessary background research by asking buyers about their needs, and then identifying appropriate solution providers. At the event, the buyers and solution providers are then brought together. They meet, have one-on-one meetings, learn about each other and what each has to offer, and ultimately, make deals.  Interns have helped with research, creating custom surveys and reaching out to the target audience to effectively market a new product. They have also been involved in organising events like multi-city road shows to present and promote the product.

Following an event, the company continues to engage with past participants throughout the year by sharing news, updates, interviews and videos with them through specially designed websites and white papers. Previous interns have been able to put their writing, editing and web design skills to use by actively working on such projects. By working on a specific project from start to finish, each intern is able to see the tangible results of his or her work.

The interns who have collaborated with Sneha and her colleagues have not only lent a valuable hand in the practical day-to-day work of the company, but they have also left a lasting impression. “The interns have brought new ideas and a new way of thinking,” she reveals. “Our own local staff has had the opportunity to interact with people from other fields and backgrounds. It has given them some international exposure. The interns in turn have been exposed to a wide variety of projects and have been given the opportunity to explore and understand them. The benefits have been mutual, not only for the interns but also for our company.”
