Interning in India: Advertising

The Indian Advertising Industry is one of the fastest growing fields in the world.  According to the Pitch Madison Outlook, it will grow 9% in 2012, placing itself on the global map in a very short amount of time.”The key reasons favoring the rapid growth of the Indian entertainment and media sector are the demographic and economic factors buoying Ind’as development; with a majority of the population below the age of 35, and increasing disposable income in Indian households, the average spend on media and entertainment is likely to grow, according to the 2009 edition of Pricewaterhouse Coopers report.” Source (http://info.shine.com/Industry-Information/Media-and-Advertising/45.aspx) With a short term advertising work placement, Leave UR Mark interns are sure to gain experience in this booming sector working with both domestic and international clients.  Companies such as Levi’s, Nike, AOL, Johnson and Johnson, Adidas, HBO, Pepsi, 7UP, and more have launched their products aggressively into India’s market.  On the other hand, there are also NGOs and Non-Profits such as Freedom Foundation or UNICEF who look for cause related advertising campaigns.  Interns can get involved in all aspects of an advertising agency including–the creative department, business development, social media, public relations, client management, and more.  Doing an international advertising internship will already put you ahead of the game for when you come back to apply for a permanent job back at home.  Or…who knows?  You might even stick around and explore the wealth of opportunities in India.

The best time to come: Year-Round

How long to come for: Business Development interns should come for at least 3 months.  Those who are knowledgeable in Graphic Design, Adobe Photoshop, etc. can come for at least 2 months.

Where you’d be working: In the heart of Bangalore City’s business district

Salary: Unpaid (but the experience, networking opportunities, and guidance pay for itself)
