When in India, do.

In my first month of living in India, I feel like it has been nothing less of an adventure. There is nothing more satisfying than immersing yourself in the lifestyle of a completely different culture, especially when you’re at a time in your life when all you need is excitement! So in the following, I will try to give you some tips on how to make the most out of your time in Bangalore.

Transportation
Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the horror stories of what the media chooses to show about public transportation in India. However, having worked over 12km away from the LUM apartment, I am the right person to tell you that IT’S OKAY TO TAKE THE BUS. Really! If you want to find ways to save some cash on transportation, then this is the right way to do it. Buses are completely safe (as long as you hang on tightly!), ridiculously cheap, very easy to use as well as highly convenient seeing as there is a bus stop at practically every corner of Bangalore. Imagine all of the shopping and traveling you can do with the extra cash you save! For more information on bus routes etc., go to: http://www.mybmtc.com/

Weekend Trips
My advice: Do them. There is not nearly enough time to see all of the wonders that India has to offer, but weekend trips really help! Some must do trips include Alleppey (Kerala), Hampi (Karnataka) and Mysore (Karnataka). Make sure to a) book your tickets in advance (a good place to do so is http://www.redbus.in ) and b) to carry bug repellant, sunscreen for any trip you embark on!

Shopping
Is it convenient to shop at the mall? Sure! Is it different from shopping at the mall back home? Absolutely not. Go explore some of the busiest, commerce filled streets all over Bangalore to get
the most variety as well as incredible bargains (If you implement your awesome haggling skills- if you don’t have them yet, don’t worry. You will acquire them.) Places like Commercial Street, Brigade Road and even Sampige Road guarantee that you’ll find some cool mementos to take home.
