Medical Volunteer Projects
Volunteers on the pre-medical or post medical school track can gain great experiences by through one of Leave UR Mark’s medical volunteering in India projects. This will give them the opportunity to contribute and learn from public health initiatives in India. With universal health care and a strong private sector, India has all the resources to eradicate many of the health issues that it faces. Challenged with raising the standard of living for its people, India has a long way to go before being able to offer good medical services to the most underprivileged sections of society. Volunteers may assist in the children’s department of a cancer hospital and work alongside medical professionals. Those that have an interest in public health can also work on helping to set up health camps in slum areas with few medical resources. At the hospital, volunteers would primarily be working in the Pediatric Department making a difference in the lives of the families and children who are critically ill, helping patients overcome their anxieties, provide a welcome and warm environment for patients, families, and visitors, ensuring timely intake of medicines for children, assist children with any post-treatment therapies, and organizing fun activities for the children (dance, music, art, etc.). Those with strong medical experience may also work with some of the doctors and nurses. Public health projects would involve outreach and setting up health camps in slum communities.
